Retinol

Retinol is Vitamin A. Many dermatologists recommend it for a boost of collagen; exfoliation, reducing fine lines/wrinkles, acne and improving overall skin texture.

It is always advised to apply sunscreen while using Retinol because skin becomes sensitive and prone to sunburn. Before starting use make sure you consult your dermatologist, it may be too harsh for some skin types, especially for those who suffer from a skin condition (eczema, psoriasis etc.). If your skin doesn’t like it, you can always substitute with natural alternatives, such as Bakuchiol and Rosehip seed oil.

Vitamin C

Vitamin C is an antioxidant. Antioxidants are great for protection against free radicals, which cause sun and environmental damage to the skin. Vitamin C is known for many benefits such as, brightening of complexion, minimizing hyperpigmentation, increasing/protecting collagen, and reducing signs of aging.

Use of sunscreen is also strongly advised because it increases sun sensitivity.

Please note, that if you have sensitive skin, you can choose from various strength levels of 5–20% concentration.

Alpha-Hydroxy-Acids (AHA)

AHA’s are exfoliating acids, two of the most common are Lactic and Glycolic Acid, that help break down old skin cells for a brightening, smoothing effect. When you experience dullness from not washing your face or sleep deprivation, these acids help with skin cell turnover for a fresher, brighter complexion.

Always use sunscreen with these products as well, since they remove top layer of skin.

Ceramides

Ceramides are lipids and a component of our skin’s barrier. These lipids help retain skin’s moisture and protect its function. They are like water molecules for the skin’s surface preventing dehydration.

We all know dehydrated skin is an aging factor, so along with eating a healthy diet, which is said to impact our ceramide levels, drinking H2O and applying ceramides all help to promote a youthful glow!

Peptides

Peptides are amino acids, the building blocks of proteins. Peptides help stimulate collagen, which helps prevent fine lines and wrinkles. If used daily along with top quality products containing these little troopers, they can provide that ‘bounciness’ youthful skin is known for, firmness and an overall smooth complexion.

Remember to do more in depth research on how these affect your specific skin-type; this is just a brief on different ingredients I have been interested in and using.

Have fun at your skin-care party!
